2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout
The 2027 Honda Passport is sold in three trims, RT-L at $45,195, TrailSport at $49,995 and TrailSport Elite at $53,695, plus two factory versions: RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch for $700, and Blackout, a $1,500 appearance package for both TrailSport trims. All six share the 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb tow rating and Honda Sensing. The $4,800 jump to TrailSport is about capability: 9.6 inches of clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch and a hitch. The $3,700 jump to TrailSport Elite is about comfort: perforated leather, ventilated and heated seats front and rear, Bose audio and a hands-free liftgate.
In the Naugatuck Valley, the Passport trim question is about winter and the lake. Every trim has all-wheel drive. The RT-L Towing and TrailSport add the factory hitch for Candlewood or Lake Zoar.

Tell us how you'll use it and we'll point you to the right trim, plus a runner-up.
What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up
Upgrades come with a few trade-offs. Here they are, up front.
RT-L to TrailSport
- Real leather. The TrailSport uses HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth; the RT-L has leather-trimmed seats.
- Interior color choice. The RT-L offers black or gray; the TrailSport is black only.
- Fuel economy: 19/25/21 mpg becomes 18/22/20, a 3-mpg drop on the highway.
- Headroom: front drops from 40.5 to 39.1 in. and rear from 40.7 to 39.6 in., and passenger volume from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 27.1° on the RT-L versus 25.3° on the TrailSport, which trades some departure angle for its 25.4° approach angle and 9.6 in. of clearance.
- Low-profile height: the TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall versus 73.1 in., worth checking if you add a roof box.
- Tire speed rating: the all-terrains are T-rated (113T) versus the RT-L's H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Curb weight rises 198 lbs, from 4,478 to 4,676.
TrailSport to TrailSport Elite
- Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
- Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.
Standard to Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
What's New on the 2027 Passport
A taller TrailSport
TrailSport trims ride on a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance (the RT-L has 8.3 in.) and improved approach, breakover and departure angles over the 2026 TrailSport.
A new TrailSport face
Bigger fender flares, a darker resculpted lower fascia, a reshaped front skid plate and amber LED hood lights.
More standard TrailSport equipment
TrailWatch and a heated steering wheel, previously TrailSport Elite features, are now standard on the TrailSport.
Blackout gets darker
The Blackout package adds black front and rear fascias to its black wheels and badges.
New paint
Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl across the lineup.
Pricing
MSRP rises $245 on the RT-L, $1,345 on the TrailSport and $1,045 on the TrailSport Elite.
Five Passport Comparisons, Settled
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
For $700, the RT-L Towing adds a factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel, nothing else. If you'll ever haul a trailer to Lake Zoar and Candlewood Lake, it's the version to get.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
Both tow from the factory; $4,100 separates them. The TrailSport brings the off-road kit, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt power. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, a gray cabin option and 25 highway mpg.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a hot July around Shelton, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
These are $2,200 apart, and they answer different questions: do you want the darker look (Blackout) or the nicer cabin (Elite)?
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
The last $1,500 is cosmetic: black wheels, badges and skid garnishes on an otherwise identical TrailSport Elite.
What Every 2027 Passport Includes
Even the $45,195 RT-L gets the full powertrain, the complete Honda Sensing suite and the same tech package as the TrailSport Elite.

How to Test-Drive a Passport in the Naugatuck Valley
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Check your garage: the TrailSport is 74.5 in. tall, 1.4 in. taller than the RT-L.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Towing? Bring your trailer's plug type. The TrailSport hitch has a 7-pin connector; check whether you'll need an adapter.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- If you can, take both trims toward Route 7 through the Litchfield Hills. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
- Merge onto Route 8 or the Merritt Parkway and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
- Sit in the back seat of both. The TrailSport's moonroof costs about an inch of rear headroom; see if you notice.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
